# Argali vs Caribou Gear vs TAG vs Lone Trail Game Bags: Which Set Fits

Lone Trail Field NotesBuying guide

## Argali vs. Caribou Gear vs. TAG vs. Lone Trail: which game bag set actually fits your pack-out?

Start with one question: are the elk quarters staying on the bone? The wrong answer makes every price comparison meaningless.

Lone Trail makes one of the sets in this guide. Where another brand is the better tool for a specific method, this page says so. Competitor prices checked 2026-08-29 (Argali, Caribou Gear, TAG).

## Lone Trail is the value bone-in system, not the ultralight boned-out winner.

That sentence guides this whole page. If you leave quarters on the bone and want four full-size bags plus a trim bag for $70, that is us. If you bone everything out and count ounces, keep reading; you probably want Argali.

Credit where due

## Why the Argali High Country is different.

At about 9 oz for five 17" by 29" bags, it is deliberately optimized for a boned-out elk or a deer-sized bone-in quarter. That is a meaningfully different product from four 40" by 24" Lone Trail quarter bags, and for that job it is the better tool. Argali also publishes a lifetime warranty on defects for the original owner.

## Why Caribou commands a premium.

A long category history, species-specific systems, a patented design, a large review base and 23" by 40" meat-on-bone sizing. The difference is not only the price gap; you are paying for a brand that has been doing exactly this for a long time.

## Why TAG remains relevant.

TAG built its name on synthetic Game-Vent material, a wide range of bag sizes and configurable sets, and a long-standing Alaska-oriented use case. If you want to assemble a set by the bag, TAG is the catalog to do it from.

## FAQ

### Bone-in or boned-out?

Both work. Bone-in is faster in the field and the quarters hang cleanly; boned-out cuts pack weight on a long walk. This set is built around bone-in quarters and handles boned-out meat with room to spare.

### Will these actually fit an elk hindquarter?

Yes. The quarter bags are 40" deep by 24" wide, sized around a bone-in elk hindquarter. The four big pieces of an elk each get their own bag.

### How many bags do I need?

A bone-in elk takes five: four quarters plus backstraps, tenderloins and trim. Boned-out, plan on five to six depending on how you split the loads. A deer takes two to four.

### Can I reuse them?

Yes. Rinse cold soon after the hunt, machine wash cold, air dry or tumble low. Hunters run the same set for multiple seasons.

### What is your warranty and return policy?

Lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects: send a photo and your order number and we replace the bag, or refund you if we cannot. Returns: try it on at home, 30 days, like-new, we pay the return shipping.
