Why five

## Four quarters, plus the meat that does not fit in four quarter bags.

- **01**Front quarter, 40" x 24" bag
- **02**Hindquarter, 40" x 24" bag
- **03**Front quarter, 40" x 24" bag
- **04**Hindquarter, 40" x 24" bag
- **05**Backstraps, tenderloins and trim, 17" x 29" bag

The backstraps alone fill a bag. First-time elk hunters bring four and end up improvising with a garbage bag for the best meat on the animal. Five is the practical baseline for a bone-in elk; boned-out, plan on five to six.

Sizing

## Yes. The big bags actually take an elk hindquarter.

A bone-in elk hindquarter is the piece every game bag gets measured against. The quarter bags are 40 inches deep and 24 inches wide: the hindquarter goes in with the bone in and the drawstring still closes over it. Front shoulders go in with room to spare, and a deer quarter is nowhere near the limit.

The one question

## Bone-in or boned-out? It decides the bag, not the brand.

### I pack elk quarters bone-in

- Four full-size quarter bags plus a trim bag is the job.
- Lone Trail: 4 x 40" x 24" + 1 x 17" x 29", $70.
- Caribou Gear Wapiti: 4 x 23" x 40" + a 16" x 30" parts bag, $105.99.

### I bone out elk in the field

- Loose meat packs into smaller bags; ultralight sets make sense.
- Argali High Country: five 17" x 29" bags, about 9 oz, $74.99.
- Our 40" x 24" bags handle boned-out meat with room to spare, but you would carry capacity you do not use.

Cooling

## The bag is supposed to protect the meat without trapping it.

Heat is what ruins elk meat. A game bag keeps flies, dirt and debris off while letting heat and moisture out so the surface dries and cools. 40D ripstop nylon breathes; hang or stage each quarter on its own, in shade, with air on every side.

The rest of the job

## Packs small. Finds itself in the dark. Washes clean.

### In the pouch on the way in

Five bags come pre-rolled in the carry pouch, about 2.1 oz per quarter bag.

### Reflective on the way out

A reflective strip on every bag throws a headlamp beam back at you, so a staged quarter is easy to walk back to.

### Washed for next season

Cold rinse, cold wash, air dry, roll them up. Synthetic ripstop dries fast and holds up to repeated washing.

## FAQ

### Will these actually fit an elk hindquarter?

Yes. The quarter bags are 40" deep by 24" wide, sized around a bone-in elk hindquarter. The four big pieces of an elk each get their own bag.

### I hunt whitetail. Are these too big for deer?

They work fine for deer. Elk sizing is the ceiling: 40" by 24" for the quarters and 17" by 29" for the smaller cuts. Front shoulders from a deer can share a bag, which leaves one spare.

### How many bags do I need?

A bone-in elk takes five: four quarters plus backstraps, tenderloins and trim. Boned-out, plan on five to six depending on how you split the loads. A deer takes two to four.

### Bone-in or boned-out?

Both work. Bone-in is faster in the field and the quarters hang cleanly; boned-out cuts pack weight on a long walk. This set is built around bone-in quarters and handles boned-out meat with room to spare.

### Will the meat breathe and cool?

That is the job. 40D ripstop nylon lets air move through the bag while keeping flies, dirt and debris off the meat. Hang or stage each quarter separately in shade so air reaches every surface.

### Can I reuse them?

Yes. Rinse cold soon after the hunt, machine wash cold, air dry or tumble low. Hunters run the same set for multiple seasons.

### Will they tear?

Ripstop is woven so a puncture stays a puncture instead of running. Bone ends and pack frames are the usual culprits; if a bag fails because of how it was made, the lifetime warranty covers it.

### How much space do they take in my pack?

The five bags come pre-rolled inside the carrying pouch. Each quarter bag is about 2.1 oz. You will not notice them on the way in.

### What is the reflective strip for?

You are packing out before dawn or after dark more often than not. The strip catches a headlamp beam so a staged bag is easy to find again.

### Do they smell like a chemical plant out of the box?

No. That is a real problem with a lot of bags and we knew it going in. These do not have that smell.
